Here's my page for the August challenge:
Materials: A Flair For Buttons arrow pin, Studio Calico paper, Crate Paper border, Fiskars Jenni Bowlin ribbon punch, American Crafts glitter Thickers, American Crafts "Alex" Delights, Pebbles flag, Fiskars corner rounder, gold gel pen from Sakura, gold mini brads from American Crafts and Mister Huey Gold mist. |
She's a pro boxer.
She changes weight divisions once in a while but mostly she's a Bantam weight fighter (and now a world title belt holder- WOOT!).
I rarely talk to Melissa about "the boxing thing".
It REALLY bothers me that she risks permanent injury every time she does her job but she loves what she's doing and she's good at it so I've learned to keep my reservations to myself.
I kept the page simple to focus on the spectacular photos (that I DID NOT TAKE- I promise to track the name down of this photographer- he did a fantastic job)
I used my favorite Studio Calico print, cut some 1/2 inch strips from a Crate print for the border and tried to use Diamond Stickles on vellum.
The water-based Stickles glue crinkled the vellum but I liked the wonky effect so I kept it in.
A whole bunch of fun new flair pin sets are up over at the A Flair For Buttons Etsy page! |
Join the Xoxo crew and show us your Olympics inspired page!
Swing by to check out the other DT work- lots of great pages this month (as always!)

Michelle
Wow--- Congrats to your sister for holding the world title belt, what an accomplishment! Your layout is beautiful! I will have to track down some of the items you used for sure, my cousin was in the Summer Olympics previously for mens gymnastics and that is perfect for those pages I have yet to do =)
ReplyDeleteWOW! I'm loving this! I love the effect of the Stickles on the vellum! Fabulous LO!
ReplyDeleteNice work being picked up by ST! I finally was as well, and will have a page in the December issue, if I remember correctly.
ReplyDeleteLove the photos on that layout :)
Cool story, and cool page! Don't you love it when experiments go wrong, but end up better than if they'd turned out the way you thought they would?
ReplyDeleteWow Michelle, that layout is spectacular! I am so loving the corrugated cardboard, that red/white border and those amazing photos. I am loving the photo with the ribbon all tied up between her fingers! The coolest part is that it is of your sister. I can totally understand your worry about her profession, but what an amazing tribute through this layout! :)
ReplyDeleteI have a question for you, my very first publication hit the bookshelves yesterday. I had already taken all images off my blog. Is it okay to take a pic of the image in the magazine now, or should I wait until next month!
Congrats on your many publications too, you have reached super-stardom status! :)
Seriously Michelle!!! This page is seriously amazing! I've been crappy about getting over here to comment, but I read every post from my email (I wish the emails worked like wordpress and you could comment directly from the email)...anyway EVERY page has been pure gold! There has not be one one "eh" page.
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone! CurlyQ- I think it should be ok since you are in effect publicizing the magazine. I just realized I didn't link up ST in all my self congratulatory photo posting here- will have to do that. If you're worried about copyright why not put the photo over FB? That is a little more acceptable since it's directed a your friends and fami;y- a smaller audience (I assume).
ReplyDeletePS- YAY FIRST PUB!!!!! Won't be your last I'm sure!
This is so awesome! That's cool about your sister! And double extra cool about your PUB!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThis page made me go 'WOW' when I first saw it! Your sister boxes? Look at that amazing photo! and what a fab design to show it off! And WOOT WOOT on your pubs...dang girl, you are awesome!
ReplyDeletewoo hoo! Congrats on the pub girl! And what an incredible page!:)
ReplyDeleteYour layout is fierce! Looks like you better be nice to your sister...
ReplyDeleteHey Michelle congrats on being published and WOW the layout of your sister is awesome! I love the way you used the cardboard and the big white stars, really its a great design :D and your sister is gorgeous, she looks like a super hero. Very cool!!
