Hello!
I'm totally excited to be participating in this FAB blog hop for Stencil Girl Products!
Today we are featuring Nat Kalbach's typewriter design for Stencil Girl.
On the eye candy menu today:
I hope you swing by all the participating blogs to see how each artist used Nat's fab stencil design.
It wouldn't be a proper blog hop without a GIVE AWAY.
One lucky reader will win a typewriter stencil on Nat's blog.
You can increase your chances by leaving one comment on each participating blog.
Deadline is Tuesday August 20th.
Good luck!
Normally I'm a fairly traditional Mommy scrapbooker but every once in a while I'll bust out a mixed media project to keep things real. (Ha!)
I love the hand drawn styling of this stencil so I put together a fairly abstract canvas using papers from Cosmo Cricket's 2wenty Thr3e line.
Materials: light molding paste on Nat's Stencil Girl Products typewriter stencil, gesso to adhere cut paper to the canvas and water color pencils to give the background some depth. |
Believe it or not this took me all day. !!!!
I wanted to make something inspiring I could stare at when I'm having a off moment (which is all the time).
Questions swirled in my head.
Should I include a famous quote?
Should I include a famous quote?
Do I add a photo?
Do I go for lots of white space or fill this baby up?
Do I go for lots of white space or fill this baby up?
Going abstract scares me because it's quite challenging to make the work relatable but I've always found the genre incredibly invigorating and thought provoking so I decided to put my inhibitions aside and see where this took me.
I also made a quick card with bits from my first attempt:
This is on it's way to you Nat! Thank you and congrats on this new venture. You've put a wonderful new tool into my paint stained hands! |
This is the last stop on the hop.
I hope we gave you something to think about and admire.

ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic piece! I love how you created a pattern with the typewriter and how you used only some of it in areas! Wow!
ReplyDeleteI love blog hops. Each of you have used this wonderful typewriter stencil in a different way. I love your canvas and the card is too cute! Perfect!
ReplyDeleteLove the way you used the modeling paste to get a subtle and yet highly textured look. I'm a big fan of your white on white, with the bits of colors and mark to add interest and variety. Love this stencil and how you used it!
ReplyDeleteI love these creations, especially the card. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteWOW.. stands for White on White. I just love this and would never think of doing that. Bravo to you. It came out great.

ReplyDeleteGreat canvas Michelle...watch out because you may become hooked on this art form! I know I did and haven't created a LO in forever!
ReplyDeleteMichelle, I like your clever use of the typewriter stencil. It has been fun seeing the different ways each of you have created something entirely different while using this same typewriter stencil.
ReplyDeleteI love what all you girls have done with the stencil, but I have to admit that your project is my favorite, totally love the structure and the colours! Thank you so much for sharing!
ReplyDeleteCorrine sent me over, Michelle, and so glad that she did! I love both projects (lucky Nat for receiving the second!). I have never been too successful using white on white, but you have done so with aplomb! Super canvas!
ReplyDeleteI can totally believe this took you all day! It takes a lot of time to narrow down materials, colors, textures, and then try everything out against one another, and then -- finally -- actually attach it all in one cohesive piece. It turned out great. Love the texture, and great use of the stencil.
ReplyDeleteI love this!
ReplyDeleteThe typewriter looks fabulous!
Thanks!
I really like your canvas! And using partial stencil impressions adds so much to the overall piece. Very nice. Lots of good ideas to borrow. :-)
ReplyDeleteLove the texture on your piece! This is one of my favorites I have seen today. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThat card looks wonderful! I still believe in snail mail and it's always delightful to receive a card like yours instead of junk mail!
ReplyDeleteLove your canvas! I'm a collage artist myself and totally understand the thought process you went through!

Love the Use of Modeling Paste. But I also loved the subtle coloring in this canvas. Good job using this unique stencil!
ReplyDeleteLove how you have used pastel colours to create this beautiful canvas and card!
ReplyDeleteWow... This woulda taken me a few days.. or even a week or so.. and it wouldnt have even come close!! lol I love that through all the white you used.. I still see splashes of color.. to show you there were layers upon layers there.. So much detail!! Never used modeling paste.. but I have some handy.. as soon as I find it again!! lol I will indeed try to use it with your pieces in mind.. They are embedded in my head.. in a good way!! TFS!!
ReplyDeleteI've been using lots of molding paste on my stencils and love the results; especially when I've sprayed the stencil first and then use the molding paste - it picks up the color of the spray and gives it a really neat marbled effect. Love your card, and I'm sure Nat will be ecstatic!
ReplyDeleteCarmen L
