But wait! That's not all. (ha!)

I have a great visual story telling tip for you today:

When looking for scrappy layout ideas or inspiration, walk the local mall or streets in your town.
I keep a visual journal of scrap page ideas I get while walking around. Pinterest and galleries aside- many of my best ideas come from looking at store displays.

Example:
SO fun! How about mixing up font sizes on your next layout?
The Gap's store window shows the latest  neon and triangles trends but what I really liked
were the easy to make flowers. Just cut paper into strips, pin the pieces together using a
a brad and fan them out. Instant flower goodness!
Your photos don't have to be perfect- they are literally just notes on the margin. As long as they make sense to you later they will be great for scrappy inspiration when your mojo is flagging.

(Also, leave a comment to be entered in the book give away!)

Thanks for stopping by!

  2. Evernote--I have a "scrapbook ideas" notebook and a shortcut to it on my android phone. It takes no time to type or dictate ideas and journaling into my phone as I go about my day. Leslie

  4. I don't know that this is a technique, but I try to always have my camera with me when I know that I will be seeing family, friends, or just going for a drive on a nice day. You never know what will happen, when memories will be captured. Thanks for the chance to win!

  5. I love the "find" photo. :)

I always try to jot down the story/memory even if I don't have a picture for it at the time. I figure I can always figure out a photo to go along with it later if I have to. :)

  6. I like to try and keep a little notepad to jot down things so I don't forget. I recently scrapped a story about my son asking if he could keep his butt. I definitely wrote it down b/c that was too priceless to forget.

  8. Thanks for the tips about store displays. I have my camera with me most of the times so if something is happening, I can reach for it. It doesn't have to any a special event, for me is more about capturing a 'sweet' moment, or something funny, in other words, something spontaneous/unscripted.

  13. Carry your photo EVERYWHERE. I take photos of architecture & signposts. At home I have photos of each room & its furniture. You think you won't ever forget--but you do. Now we have documentation.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I keep a list of things I need to scrap. That way I have starting points when I have just a couple minutes to scrap.

    ReplyDelete

Lately as my kids have grown older we will sit around and visit with each other and they will remember something, I will try to write that down also, so it's from their perspective.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I keep a small notebook to jot down the stuff I know I will forget. Thanks for the chance to win.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  63. Perfect is great, but done is better. I am a perfectionist and I think it holds me back a lot of times from just getting things done because I don't think they'll be "perfect". I just need to do it! alyna_h{at}hotmail{dot}com

    ReplyDelete
  67. Tonight, I was taking a picture of our camper. My oldest son thought it would be a great opportunity to mess up my picture by being a complete goof off in the shot. Needless to say, I have some really cute pictures of him, not so many of the camper.

  68. My favorite tip is to get your family involved in the journaling. It's interesting to find out which details and memories they think are important. You may find they are quite different from yours and it's important to record what everyone thinks about an event. And it's also a good way to make annual pages, like for holidays, fresh and new.

    ReplyDelete
  69. my favorite tip is to keep my cell phone handy for spur of the moment shots.

    ReplyDelete
  70. My tip is that you need to make the effort to scrap the ordinary and mundane. Big events are important, but so is the everyday.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I'm currently obsessed with using instagram to record our family's everyday photos. But, I discovered picmonkey.com today and think that might become my new obsession...

    ReplyDelete
  72. I don't have any good tips. I just need to get started!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  73. Be yourself. Document what makes you happy. Write the way you think in your head. Enjoy yourself!

    ReplyDelete
  74. I started using Project Life. I also use Facebook and Instagram to keep the dates straight.

    ReplyDelete
  75. My favorite tip is to stop stressing about the quality of my photos. With little boys, they are often blurry, funny expressions, not the pose I had in mind, etc. Plus I'm just not that great a photographer! Hopefully in the future I can take classes to improve - but right now I just want to get my stories told, so I'm committed to using the photos I have!!

    ReplyDelete
  76. Organizing is not scrapbooking. :)

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  79. Always carry a camera with you...and a notebook/pen or app on your phone to capture the little moments before they're forgotten.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  81. My favorite tip is to scrap in the moment and scrap what inspires! For me it's the most fun and the most gratifying. I love the flexibility that digital scrapbooking gives me with this.

    ReplyDelete
  82. keep a note book handy to jot down ideas as they come to you...

    ReplyDelete
  83. ciao! un saluto dall'italia!

    ReplyDelete
  84. I love to write notes of stuff we are doing. things the kids say. where we've been. sometimes i feel like it might be too much, and i don't use every note i've made as a scrapbook page, but if i don't write it down i surely forget!

    ReplyDelete
  85. I don't throw away greeting cards.I have birthday, anniversary, holiday, getwell, etc, cards from the day I was born (thanks to my mom) to present day. It brings back memories to go thru the cards and you have sentiments, samples of handwriting and embellishments to make awesome scrapbook pages:)

    ReplyDelete
  86. Oh my gosh! Where have I been???? Congratulations on contributing to what appears to be an AWESOME book! You go, Girl! I'm so proud of you!
